As 2019 comes to a close, we look back at a really great year for Gordon River Cruises. Here are a few highlights...
Achieving EcoStar accreditation
This is the environmental accreditation that is adopted and endorsed by the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, recognising businesses that engage in robust environmental practices, including positive advocacy for Tasmania's wild places. We acheived EcoStar accreditation in June 2019 and are very proud to be one of a relatively small number of tourism businesses to have done so.
Launching The Pillinger Explorer
Sharing this magnificent place, with it's fascinating history and wild beauty, is a real honour. In launching The Pillinger Explorer, we added an experience to our range of Strahan tours, that is intimate, interesting and truly authentic. The tour visits Pillinger before Bonnet Island near the mouth of Macquarie Harbour. Summer 2019-20 is the first full summer of the new tour and we're looking forward to taking visitors from all over the world to Pillinger to show them some of the west coast's historical highlights.
GOLD Tasmanian Tourism Award - 2nd year in a row!
This was huge for us. What an absolute highlight of the year and honour for our team to sit alongside the best of Tasmania's tourism industry and win GOLD in the highly competitive 'Tour Operator & Transport' category for the second year running! This award is recognition of the amazing job our team does every day, as we share our backyard with our guests.
Becoming a Wildcare Natural Partner
We teamed up with Wildcare in spring of 2019 and it's a partnership we're really happy to be able to support. Gordon River Cruises became a founding funding partner for the Wildcare gift fund dedicated to assisting Tasmania's penguin population. It was so good to hear from Wildcare, that some of the gift fund's money has already been put to use along the north west coast of Tasmania.
